Getting started, answers to common questions, and how to reach a human. Fieldstrip is a maintenance aid — always follow your firearm's owner's manual, and treat every firearm as loaded until you have verified otherwise.

Your first clean

1. Add a firearm

   Open My Safe and search the catalog — pistols, revolvers, shotguns, rifles, and suppressors. Tap your make and model to add it. The free tier holds two firearms; Pro removes the limit.

2. Clear it first — the safety gate

   Every guide opens on a safety gate. Confirm the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction by checking each box; the guide will not begin the teardown until all checks are made. This step is not optional and cannot be skipped.

3. Follow the guide

   Step through the illustrated field-strip with Next Step. Each part is highlighted in the diagram as you reach it, and the Parts Diagram lets you tap any component to identify it. Deep-clean paths, care reminders, and record-keeping are there when you want them.

Questions

QIs my data private?

Yes. Fieldstrip is local-first: your firearms, ammunition, magazines, maintenance history, and reminders are stored on your device — no account, no cloud sync, no ads, and nothing sold or shared. Full details are in the privacy policy.

QDoes the app need an internet connection?

No. Everything runs on-device and works fully offline. The Android release build declares no network permissions at all — it cannot transmit your data even in principle, a fact you can verify in the app's Android manifest.

QHow do I request a firearm that isn't in the catalog?

Email contact@fieldstripllc.com with the make, model, and variant — the most-requested platforms get built first. In the app, firearm requests are a Pro feature; from here, a plain email is all it takes.

QHow do I back up my data?

Because your records live only on your device, your device's own backup is your backup. Fieldstrip is included in Android's backup, so a Google-account backup or a device-to-device transfer carries your data to a new phone. Keep that backup current — deleting the app without a backup deletes the data, and we hold no copy on any server.

QDoes Fieldstrip replace my owner's manual?

No. Fieldstrip is a maintenance aid. Your manufacturer's manual is the authority for your specific firearm, and anything beyond routine field-strip cleaning belongs with a qualified gunsmith. The app is intended for lawful owners aged 18 and over.
